Manchester United are reportedly looking to increase the capacity of
Old Trafford to make it the third largest stadium in Europe.

According to the Daily Mail, there are proposals to pack 88,000 fans into the Theatre of Dreams, a 12,000 increase on the current capacity.
Here are all the details…
  • The increase would start with an additional 7,500 seats being added to the Sir Bobby Charlton stand.
  • The railway line behind what was formerly known as the Main Stand has always been an obstacle to increasing capacity, however ‘new technology’ means this can be circumnavigated.
  • Quadrants would then be added in the two corners of the improved stand.
  • The addition of the quadrants could be completed without any short-term closures of any sections of the stadium.

  • Once completed, the new capacity would stand at 88,000.
  • It’s possible the capacity could then increase even further. United are open to the introduction of safe standing at Old Trafford, however current legislation insisting stadiums must be all-seater would need changing.
  • Wembley is currently the largest stadium in the United Kingdom, with a capacity of 90,000.
