A treble from Edin Dzeko helped Serie A side Roma run out 4-0 winners away to Villarreal in their first leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie.
The former Manchester City striker took his tally for the season to 28 goals with the hat-trick, his best return in a campaign since his days playing for Wolfsburg.
It was a better night for Villarreal's La Liga rivals Athletic Bilbao, who beat Apoel Nicosia 3-2 at home.
